Relatives — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026. Applies to the Android and iPhone versions.

Data collected

The app does not use location, contacts or the microphone. The iPhone version shows no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. The Android version shows Google AdMob ads, which may use the device advertising ID — you can disable it in your device settings.

How data is used and stored

Data is stored on the aqan.kz server only to run the app: showing your relatives and restoring your data when you change phones. It is not sold or shared with third parties.

Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. On the server it is stored unencrypted. There is no way to view stored data through a browser — it is only accessible through the app.

The camera and photo library are used only with your permission, when you add a photo.

Shared areas

The clan tree and the public chat are shared by all users; text posted there is visible to other users. You can report an abusive message and block its author.

Merging databases

When the same person (same name and date of birth) appears in two databases, the app links those databases. After that, data you entered also becomes visible to that relative — building a shared family tree is the purpose of the app.

Children's data

The app is used by adults. Data about children (name, date of birth, photo) is entered by the adult who adds them to a database. Any such entry can be deleted from the app.

Subscription

The iPhone version offers a paid subscription. Payment is handled by Apple: we never see or store your card details.

Deleting your data

If the database is yours (you created it), you delete it and all its data from inside the app: More… → Delete my database. The button is shown only to the owner, and works only if no other relative has joined the database and it has not been merged with another one — otherwise other people's data would be destroyed along with yours.

If a relative added you to their database, that entry is part of their family tree. Removing you also changes other people's records (your spouse would be left without a spouse, your children without a father or mother), so the person who built the tree should do it themselves, using "Unlink" in the app.

If you cannot reach them, or the conditions above are not met, email akhanzh@gmail.com with your database number (shown at the bottom of the "More…" screen). Your photo, your chat messages and your sign-in records are deleted within 30 days. If you believe your name and family links must be removed as well, explain why and each case will be reviewed individually. More details: support page.
